Just compensation
For my work
As a writer,
Make me somehow
Less than
"Spiritual"?
A hot dog
Train ride
Shampoo
& blow dry
Unclogging
Kitchen drains...
Each commands its
Fair value in the
Marketplace.
Attorneys exact fees.
Sales Reps their
Commissions.
Workers, weekly
Salary checks,
Pensions.
And the first question
When you arrive at
The hospital isn't:
"Hey, how are
You doing, pal?"
It's "Do you
Have insurance
Or Medicare?"
For God's sake, even
The minister passes around
The collection plate!
Why would
Committing
WORDS
To paper
Be a less
Worthy
Endeavor?
In our society,
Fortunately,
Money isn't a
4-letter word.
You willingly
Pay for gas,
Food, rent,
Cigarettes.
Think nothing
Of shelling out
Big bucks for a
Cup of Starbucks,
Pair of Reeboks,
Victoria's Secret
Negligee,
Or tickets to a mindless
Rock concert or
Sports event.
Why should
IDEAS
Be treated
As the
Cheapest
Commodity?
