Sunset Slide Show
Linda R. Cook

Hurry, hurry, the sun is slipping, sinking deep
Let’s go for a drive and watch it from the beach.

We rush and round the curves far too fast
Tires squall, caution us to a crawl, let others pass.

Heartbeats quicken, our car parked atop the bluff
Mesmerizing mottled sky, words are not enough.

Splendid sun makes no sound at all
Flings its magic brush, issues a silent call.

Swipes and swirls scoot across the sky
Unknown feathered friends float and glide by.

Glorious golden globe, crimson colored reds
Inept description scuttles through our heads.

Yellow reds blend to mauves, purple puffs, ash gray
Dare not blink, fearful to miss such delicate display.

Our hands touch, fingers squeeze and wrap tight
As we gaze in quiet at this awesome sight.

Silent sun makes its graceful exit, bowing deep
To bid us good night, preparing to rest and sleep.

Magical moon edges in to light and replace,
This day is done; a memory is what we make.
