QUIZ
OLIVE OIL BON APPETIT!
WHICH OLIVE OIL
IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Olive oil judges from coast to coast and around the world recognize award-winning olive oils, but not all of them may be a suitable match for you and your lifestyle. For instance, if you don’t like mushrooms, porcini olive oil may not be your cup of oil. You may love to cook, but extra virgin olive oil may not give you enough pizzazz. Like to bake but don’t want to be stuck using only canola oil (one healthful oil) for your breads, cakes, and muffins? You may be limiting yourself with your oil of choice.
No matter what kind of oil lover you are, take this quiz to get to know your personality and your real taste in oil before you choose the oil(s) for you.

Mostly A’s: The Extrovert:

Mostly E’s: The Adventurer:
Your Style: You are ready to travel for work or play. Trying new foods is what life is all about. You enjoy tasting new foods and flavors wherever you go and “bland” in not in your vocabulary.

OLIVE OIL BEAUTY TIPS
FROM HEAD TO TOE
Ready-made products are a treat because they’re convenient and smell nice. But, using olive oil by itself or with other ingredients in your kitchen cupboards can work wonders, too.
Soft and Shiny Hair. Fatty acid-rich olive oil can penetrate the hair cuticle and smooth dry hair. Celebrity hair stylists and beauty experts recommend putting a few drops of olive oil in the palm of hard and rub until the skin glistens. Then, work the oil into your locks, starting from the ends.
I did this months ago—first with canola oil and then with extra virgin olive oil. Both oils do the trick. Your hair, especially if it’s exposed to cold, dry climate, chlorine, blow dryers, curling irons, and hair products, will be softer and silky to touch and it will appear less dry and have a nice sheen.
Skin Moisturizer: Many women have told me that they use extra virgin olive oil on their face at night as a moisturizer. In the morning, I use an all-purpose moisturizing crème with SPF 15. At night, I use the olive oil remedy. I apply the oil to my face, around my eyes, and on my laugh lines (and the extra into my hands and cuticles). In the morning, my skin feels softer than usual. A bonus: Antiaging crèmes cost $15 on up. This remedy costs less—may do more.
Eye Makeup Remover. If you wear eyeliner, mascara, and eye shadow like women do to enhance their eyes, you also know that it is a task to remove these beauty enhancers. An easy-does-it eye makeup remover may be as close to you as your kitchen cabinet.
Try mixing1 tablespoon of canola oil with 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil. Apply a small amount to a cotton ball and wipe your eyelashes and eyelids.
Soften Elbows. In the spring and summertime, it’s common to notice rough elbows. But why not take care of this alligator-type skin year-round? Then, whether it’s shower time or bedtime, you’ll have one less beauty woe.
Italy’s Antonio recommends his grandmother’s easy-to-do remedy. Dip your elbows in a bowl with some lukewarm olive oil. (Warm it up in the microwave.) Repeat as needed, and they will become smooth before you can say “soft elbows.”
Sexy Feet. Kris, a genuine olive oil lover, swears by olive oil for making her feet soft. “On an evening when you can soak your feet,” she says, she does it and she goes the whole 9 yards. “I rub olive oil to treat rough skin, then put on some thick socks. You can leave that on overnight. For a real soft foot treatment, soak those feet in vinegar first, then rub with olive oil and your feet will be baby soft.”
